Yoga Courses for Beginners

Learn the basics of yoga from scratch systematically and safely in a small, friendly and relaxed setting with one of our Yoga Courses for Beginners. Or, take a course to renew your practice after some time away or to strengthen the foundation of your existing practice.

In Yoga 1, you will be introduced to the 5 Points of Yoga for vibrant health, 11 of our 12 basic yoga postures (asanas), sun salutations (surya namaskar), breathing exercises (pranayama), relaxation exercises, introduction to proper diet, positive thinking and meditation.

In Yoga 2, further establish the practice learned in Yoga 1. Add the twelfth posture to the series and one more breathing exercise.  (You will then be familiar with everything covered in our All-Levels Yoga Classes.) Also learn several new variations to develop more flexibility, strength and stamina.

Intermediate Yoga Courses

In Yoga 3, take your practice further. Learn about meditation, the energy body, stress and its effects, and continue with the 12 basic yoga asanas, sun salutations, and pranayama. Additional variations will be introduced. You will be encouraged to hold the postures a bit longer. Be confident to practice at home.

Continue to Yoga 4 and learn more about the mind, plus themed asana variations. Yoga courses beyond Yoga 4 form on demand.

Courses meet once a week for 5 weeks; each session is 90 minutes. To support you in practicing regularly, while enrolled in the course, attend as many Open Yoga Classes as you like—free of charge.

Meditation 1 is a 5-session introduction to the basic guidelines and conditions for classical yogic meditation. Participants will study the mechanics of the mind and how to calm the mind and turn inward for Self-awareness. Learn to withdraw the senses and to take distance from the sensual world of objects which create desires, discontentment and restlessness in an endless pursuit of external happiness. Get support to set up a regular practice of your own.

A 5-session continuation of guidelines and conditions for classical yogic meditation, Meditation 2 takes you deeper in your meditation practice by understanding your mind, the root of your thoughts and emotions. Learn how to uplift your thoughts. Included are ethical principles from the eight limbs of Yoga, Raja Yoga Sutras and mantras.
